Improvement makes strait roads, but the crooked roads
without improvement are roads of Genius.

About this website
This website grew
for no particular reason from a need to post items to the web, so
friends and acquaintances could view or download them at their
leisure and without clogging their inboxes with huge attachments.
Surely there were simpler means to accomplish this end than the
one I've chosen, but the labor has been rewarding for me, and I
hope the result is pleasant for you as well. At least, I have
tried to make it so.
I created the images on these pages in The Gimp, a graphics package whose power
and flexibility I am only beginning to realize. If my efforts here
fall short, you may safely blame my understanding of the tools I
used, or my skill in using them, and not the tools themselves.
The HTML itself was coded by hand using GNU Emacs - affectionately known as
"the Beast" - an editing facility for text and just
about anything else that can be displayed on a computer screen
using an ASCII character set. Imagine Micro$oft's old standby
"Notepad", decades old, with a command-line interface,
and plug-ins and modules for every conceivable purpose added on by
dozens of hands, and you'll begin to get the idea. When I find
myself utterly at a loss, I sometimes resort to Bluefish, a dedicated web development tool, which gives
me a hint on what properties may be properly set for each
element.
All of the above software is currently
running on my aging PC under RedHat Linux, and a staggering amount of
time aside, not one of these packages has cost me a dime.
The JavaScript for these pages, as
explained elsewhere, is my own, with the
exception of the bit that swaps images on "mouse over"
events (imgmgt.js), which was lifted
from
a friend's
website, tidied up a bit, and placed in a script file.
The design and content of these pages is
my own, except where noted, and are in their entirety
