Imitating Christ is the call of the Gospel. It is a difficult and sometimes life-threatening challenge.

Jesus' example of his own servanthood by washing his disciples' feet, provides us the model for what our own servanthood should reflect in this world - in this day.

Sermon Title: "The Greatest Little Beginning"
  • Isaiah 43:1-7
  • Psalm 29
  • Acts 8:14-17
  • Luke 3:15-17, 21-22
The baptism of Jesus began his public ministry. In this act, he commits to us, bonds with our need to be cleansed from sin, and sides with those who are seeking to change their lives. The King of Kings begins his earthly work as humbly as he was born.

This Sunday we will also celebrate the renewal of our baptismal vows, made for us as infants, or made by us as an older child, a youth, or an adult.

January 14, 2006

Sermon Title: "A Place for You"
  • Nehemiah:1-3, 5-6, 8-10
  • Psalm 19

Christianity is not a do-it-yourself religion. Our faith may begin as a personal relationship with God, but it is supported, strengthened, and increased by our relationship with a Christian community. God gave us the church as a gift to enable us to grow spiritually.

  • Psalm 71:1-6
  • I Corinthians 13:1-13
  • Luke 4:21-30
The prophets and apostles were given revelations to teach God's people. God acts through the Spirit and the circumstances of our lives to teach us as individuals and to draw us more into the life of Christ. We must listen with the ears of the heart for what God wants us to hear.

  • Isaiah 6:1-8
  • Psalm 138
  • I Corinthians 15:1-11

  • Jeremiah 17:5-10
