Sermon Topics For Previous Sundays in this
Series
April 1, 2007 - Palm/Passion Sunday
Meditation: "Imitation of the Life of Christ"
- Palms:
- Luke 19:28-40
- Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29
- Passion:
- Psalm 31:9-16
- Philippians 2:5-11
- Luke 22:39-62
Imitating Christ is the call of the Gospel.
It is a difficult and sometimes life-threatening
challenge.
On this Sunday, the church will begin its
worship by celebrating the story of Jesus'
triumphal entry into Jerusalem; after this
joyous entrance, the service will gradually
move to the passion of Christ as he is betrayed
by one of his own followers.
April 5, 2007 - Maundy (Holy) Thursday
Meditation: "Do As I Have Done to You"
- Psalm 116:1-4, 12-19
- I Corinthians 11:23-26
- John 13:1-17, 31b-35
Jesus' example of his own servanthood by
washing his disciples' feet, provides us
the model for what our own servanthood should
reflect in this world - in this day.
This reflective service will offer Holy Communion
and the servant act of footwashing, as commanded
by Jesus in the Gospel of John.
April 8, 2007 - EASTER
Sermon: "Living the Resurrection"
- Acts 10:34-43
- Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24
- John 20:1-18
Easter hope can permeate all of our lives,
even in the midst of sorrow and struggle,
that is part of all our lives at times. Easter
hope gives us a solid foundation for living
the resurrection.

Sermon Topics For Previous Sundays in this
Series
January 7, 2007
Sermon Title: "The Greatest Little Beginning"
- Isaiah 43:1-7
- Psalm 29
- Acts 8:14-17
- Luke 3:15-17, 21-22
The baptism of Jesus began his public ministry.
In this act, he commits to us, bonds with
our need to be cleansed from sin, and sides
with those who are seeking to change their
lives. The King of Kings begins his earthly
work as humbly as he was born.
This Sunday we will also celebrate the renewal
of our baptismal vows, made for us as infants,
or made by us as an older child, a youth,
or an adult.
January 14, 2006
Sermon Title: "The Making of a Miracle"
- Psalm 36:5-10
- I Corinthians 12; 1-11
- John 2:1-11
Jesus performs his first miracle at a wedding.
There to celebrate, he obeys his mother by
helping when a major problem develops. His
own obedience sparks a miracle, and shows
the power of God to renew, restore, and transform
our circumstances.
January 21, 2007
Sermon Title: "A Place for You"
- Nehemiah:1-3, 5-6, 8-10
- Psalm 19
- I Corinthians 12:12-31a
Christianity is not a do-it-yourself religion.
Our faith may begin as a personal relationship
with God, but it is supported, strengthened,
and increased by our relationship with a
Christian community. God gave us the church
as a gift to enable us to grow spiritually.
January 28, 2007
Sermon: "How God Speaks to Us"
- Jeremiah 1:4-10
- Psalm 71:1-6
- I Corinthians 13:1-13
- Luke 4:21-30
The prophets and apostles were given revelations
to teach God's people. God acts through the
Spirit and the circumstances of our lives
to teach us as individuals and to draw us
more into the life of Christ. We must listen
with the ears of the heart for what God wants
us to hear.
February 4, 2007
Sermon: "Do Not Be Afraid"
- Isaiah 6:1-8
- Psalm 138
- I Corinthians 15:1-11
- Luke 5:1-11
God is active in the world in many ways.
We must depend on God's power to carry out
the work Christ has given us to do. Through
prayer and faithfulness, the good news of
Christ Jesus can be shared in the most amazing
ways; we are not to be fearful with God at
our side.
February 11, 2007
Sermon: "Turning the World Upside Down!"
- Jeremiah 17:5-10
- Psalm 1
- Luke 6:17-26
Jesus teaches that it is why we do what we
do that matters more than the outward act.
Christians must get away from legalism and
think about their motives and priorities.
February 18, 2007
Sermon: "What Goes Up Must Come Down!"
- Exodus 34:29-35
- Psalm 99
- II Corinthians 3:12-4:2
- Luke 9:28-36
This is the last Sunday in the season of
Epiphany known as Transfiguration Sunday.
The Gospel lesson is the biblical account
of Jesus be transfigured before Peter, James,
and John on the mountaintop. Mountaintop
experiences occur in our lives as well. What
happens to us when we return from those mountaintop
experiences and re-enter the world of reality?

- Joel 2:1-2, 12-17
- Psalm 51:1-17

Sermon: "Remember, Rejoice, Rededicate"
- Deuteronomy 26:1-11
- Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16
- Romans 10:8b-13
When we remember the history of God's gracious
dealings with us and the world, we gain a
faithful perspective on our lives, God's
grace shapes us and shapes the world. In
giving thanks for this great gift, we also
rededicate our lives to God.
March 4, 2007 - 2nd Sunday in Lent
Sermon: "The Fox Will Fail!"
- Psalm 27
- Philippians 3:17-4:1
- Luke 13:31-35
Foxy Herod seeks the life of Jesus. But,
Jesus is not deterred from his God-given
mission to go to Jerusalem. Many things in
life threaten us and make us afraid. Still,
we can live confident of God's saving love
and continue our mission in the name of Jesus
Christ.
March 11, 2007 - 3rd Sunday in Lent
Sermon: "The God of Second Chances"

Christ. Our choice is what to do with them.
March 18, 2007 - 4th Sunday in Lent
Sermon: "Welcome Home"
- Psalm 32 II
- Corinthians 5:16-21
- Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32
Faith seems to be a dance of brokenness and
reconciliation within ourselves, with one
another, with our world, and - most importantly
-- to and with God. When it comes to God,
the ledger sheet is never balanced, at least
not in this life. It is always open to the
possibility of reconciliation.
March 25, 2007 - 5th Sunday in Lent
Sermon: "Jesus or the Poor?"
- Psalm 126
- Philippians 3:4b-14
- John 12:1-8
Judas (who is to betray Jesus) questions
Mary, who anoints Jesus, concerning her lavish
use of a very precious and costly ointment,
normally reserved for those who are to be
buried. What does Jesus' reply say to us
- ". . . You always have the poor with
you, but you do not always have me."?
