Vision for CBC

The Covington Bible Church (CBC), located at 2140 S. Carpenter Dr. in Covington, Virginia, is pastored by Howard Merrell.

Sunday Morning we have two worship services, at 8:30 and 11:00.  Our Sunday School is at 9:45am.

Sunday Evenings, September - May, we offer Bible Bears, a program for preschool youngsters that begins at 5:45;  Olympians for children in grades 1-6, 5:45; Word of Life Clubs for teens, which begins at 5:45; and CBC  Sunday Night  for adults, which meets from 6:00 – 7:00.  During the summer we have Family Nights.

Our Sunday morning messages are available on tape or disk.  Click here to order

Visit our Schedule  page for more information about weekly and special events and to find other ways to get plugged into CBC.

Something to Think About (STTA) is a radio and internet production of CBC hosted by Howard Merrell. This program started out as a 60 second radio spot and has grown into a world wide internet ministry. In the Alleghany Highlands, you can hear STTA by tuning into 100.9 WIQO-FM at 12:50 (or so) in the afternoon, weekdays. You can subscribe to the internet version by clicking the link on the left.

Howard Merrell started writing stories about Parson Smedley, who pastors the congregation at the Little White Meeting House up on Hogback Ridge, as pieces for the church bulletin.  Some folk claim that Smedley bears a remarkable resemblance to Merrell.  Of course any similarity is purely coincidental.  If you are involved in church you might find that the goings-on up on the Hogback are similar to what happens at your church.   Checkout Parson Smedley and the News from "Hogback Ridge".

Our Sunday services—the messages and some music—are available on audio cassette tape, VCR, and DVD.  If you would like to order a recent recording, click here.

If you would like to get involved in a Bible study via email, check out the Christian Basics Bible Study.

The central message of the Bible is the Good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. You can read about the life-changing power of this message at "Stories of Changed Lives."  Our goal at CBC is to make that message live for people of all ages.

Where is the Covington Bible Church and where are we headed?  Pastor Merrell has been writing a series of articles about his vision for CBC.  You can find these articles here:  Vision for CBC.
