What a Church Ought to Be
1 Thessalonians 2:13-16
Resisted by the World
"If the world hates you..." (John 15:18-21)
The Thessalonian church fulfilled two of Jesus' predictions about His followers.
Just as Jesus had
predicted his people would be known for their love, (John 13:35) he had also
predicted that they
would be persecuted and resisted by the world.
I. Why they were
resisted
It was because of how
they received the Word of God.
A. It was
________________________
What did Jesus claim about
himself? I AM.....
Narrow from whose
perspective?
B. It was
________________________
'They think it strange that
you do not.... speaking evil of you (1 Peter 4:3-4)
1._____
2._____
C. It was imitative
900 miles and
17 years distant
II. How they were resisted
A. They ___________________
them.
B. They
___________________ them out.
C. They
___________________ God and men.
D. They
___________________ the spread of the gospel
E. They
___________________ of their sins.
Because of this, God's wrath had come upon them.
A. In the past _______________________________.
B. In the near future __________________________.
C. In the end times ___________________________.
D. In the final judgment ________________________.
If we follow the Lord, we will at times be resisted by the World. (2 Tim
3: 12)
