Since I've had this page up, I've learned a great deal of lore on the Ferguson tractor. One who hit my page and supplied me with some information was Don Fechtman. Don sent me some lore and other information on the Ferguson Tractor. With his permission, I've included his comments here.
" I am the proud owner of a fully restored Ferguson TO20. The tractor was my father's and when he passed away I didn't want to part with it so I took on the task of restoring the tractor to showroom condition. I then came across a 1939 Ford 9N which was on a showroom floor for a number of years in Oklahoma. It is serial #4379 which means it was one of the first 5,000 made in 1939. Also, I have been told since the starter button is located on the dash that it makes the tractor even more valuable.
Don continues by writing, "I was told that in 1939 Henry ford was at a fair demonstrating the tractor. Mr. Ford walked over to the tractor and from a standing position next to the tractor proceeded to start it. He did not realize the tractor was in gear and it started and ran over his foot, possibly breaking his foot. He then called his engineers over and told them if something was not done about the current starter situation that they may be facing a future law suit. It was then that the starter button was moved to down near the gear shift and designed so that the shifter must be in neutral in order to depress the starter button and start the tractor."
