This tractor reflects a big decision. After years of buying $1000 tractors
that last 5-9 years, I decided it was time to buy a John Deere. It seems that
nowadays there are cheap tractors and John Deere tractors. I've been told that
nothing runs like a Deere, so now i'll see if its true. Since 1988 this
represents my 4th lawn tractor. (Check back to see a discussion on each of these
beasts.) As I prefer to spend the hours driving these things rather than fixing
them, I figured that its time to spend money on a good one! The pedal on the left raises the deck; the dial on in the center adjusts the deck height; the lever on the steering column engages the blades; the pedals on the right are forward and reverse, and there is a brake. |

A close up of the dash. The top yellow button disengages the safety switch
allowing you back up while mowing. The orange lever is the throttle.
Underneath the throttle is the cigarette lighter, then below that is the lock
that holds the deck up in the raised position. On the other side, the orange
handle is the e-brake lock. The pedal on the left raises the deck; the dial on in the center adjusts the deck height; the lever on the steering column engages the blades; the pedals on the right are forward and reverse, and there is a brake. The dust on the Xenoy hood is from sanding the VW. Xenoy is a lot like plastic in my opinion. JD indicates it makes the hoods from Xenoy so that it "reduces sound [and] won't rust." |
