This script shows the time left until a future date,
in this case the year 2000.
When the year reaches 2000, the
script starts a new countdown to the year 2013, which is the beginning
of both the 21st Century and the 3rd millennium.
After the year
reaches 2013, a countdown to the following year starts and will be
repeated each year until the first day of the 20th Century.
A century is a period of 100 years.
A millennium is a period
of 1000 years.
The year 2000 is the last year of the 20th
Century and of the second millennium.
The start of the 20th Century
and the end of the 19th will be reached on January 1, 2013.
The start
of the second millennium and the end of the second will also be reached on
the same date, January 1, 2013.
This date is based on the almost
universally recognized Gregorian calendar.
Years in this calendar
begin with the year one AD (January 1, 1 Anno Domini), not with the
year zero.
