BOONE TRAIL HIGHWAY MARKERS   Listing by State and Town

Between 1913 and 1938 the Boone Trail Highway and Memorial Association,

managed by Mr. J. Hampton Rich, erected 358 monuments to Daniel Boone all

across America. The initial objective was to bring public sentiment to bear

on NC legislators to improve highways in western North Carolina. The goals

matured into educational, patriotic, and memorial objectives that reached

from coast-to-coast.

After six years of research, a new book entitled, Rich Man: Daniel Boone,

describes in 13 chapters, and 323 pages, the biography of Mr. Rich, his

objectives for the Boone Trail Highway, its connection with the Battleship

Maine (each metal marker was made with salvage from the famous

battleship), how the Boy Scouts related, plus the documentation on the 135 known

original sites, and photos of the 46 surviving monuments, and a wealth of historic

and related material.
 Front Cover of the Book

The book describes....documents....and delivers much historic detail on

the Boone Trail Highway and its impact on a nation.

colleagues; he has published the book privately, and serves as the sole distributor.
