The Train Station

The Virginia Central Railroad reached what is now Clifton Forge on July 10, 1857 and called it the Jackson River Station. 1896 began construction of the Gladys Inn in Clifton Forge. This building became the YMCA in 1930. This building was torn down in 1975. The C&O Railroad spent $333,966.33 constructing a yard, depot, and large shops at Clifton Forge.

Dollar Store

The Dollar Store has lots of candy and stuff for the house. I really love the candy and spray paint. I really think it would be fun to work there.

Victor's

Victor's is a food place. There is a bar where you can sit, and they serve pizza. There is a sign that shows where Victor's is. They have bathrooms and lots of tables. My favorite food at Victor's is pizza.

Sweet Shop

I've never been to the Sweet Shop. I have seen it next to my karate class. It's an ice cream and candy store. It's decorated with red and white stripes and pictures and big fans.

Garlynda's Fancy Feet

When Mom and Dad bought the building it was ugly and dirty. The first thing they did was clean the floors. Tizer and Dad built a waiting room for the dancers. The walls are white with blue flowers. We put doors over the elevator for safety. Next Tizer and Dad began to build a display window. It has dancers on the walls and trophies on the floor. They have worked almost every day painting and nailing.

Press's Wholesale

I go to Press's. Sometimes I buy ten Blow Pops for one dollar. When I go with my Aunt B.J., we always get a pickle. They have lots of movies there, too. They have lots of candy and soda.

Stonewall Theater

It is fun to watch the people at the Stonewall Theater. It is fun to watch in the balcony. They have delicious popcorn--it is sweet. The creek runs on the side of the theater.

Update: The Stonewall is once again known as the "Masonic Theater".

C&J Shell Service Station

Shell fixes cars and trucks. They used to fill up vehicles with gas. You may get your car washed for a small fee. There are several people who work at the station. Some of these people are: mechanics, gas station attendants, and car washers.

Super Fresh

Super Fresh is a food store. It has lots of good things to eat like apples and meats and treats like strawberries and things like that. They have fish, which is good. And sometimes they are very busy.

7-11

A long time ago there was a gas station at the 7-11. I was not even born. Now the 7-11 is there. It is a brick building. It has a big walk-in refrigerator on one side of the 7-11. It has two big rooms in the back. It has a black phone. There are big lights outside.

Update: 7-11 discontinued all its franchises in this area. The store is now "Morris Convenience Store".

Clifton Forge Post Office (24422)

The Post Office is located on Commercial Ave. It is a red brick building in front of Seven Eleven. Mail goes to the Post Office. There it gets sorted and goes to the right house. They offer a faster delivery for more money. You can buy stamps and get your mail there if it does not come to your house. The Post Office will give you income tax forms.

Clifton Forge Public Library

The library is a great place to read and get books. Everybody likes the library. Some people go there weekly, like Karl and Joseph. The library is a great place to read, do reports, and do research. I like to check out books by my favorite authors. If you want a good book just go down to your nearest library and read a book.

Clifton Forge West Elementary School

I like school. When we get to school, we answer the questions. Then we go outside for recess. We have jump-ropes and a big red ball and a football. I like school.

Update: With the opening of the new Mountain View Elementary School near Low Moor, both the East and West Schools have closed. The West School now houses the local Senior Center and the Shenandoah Autism Center.

Pizza Hut

My mom works at Pizza Hut. My mom makes pizza. She mixes the flour for the dough in a big bowl. Mom makes the sauce to go on top of the pizza. She adds the cheese. Then off to the oven to cook. So good!

Kroger

I love Kroger. My mom works there. My mom buys me candy when she comes from work. My class went to Kroger. My mom was at lunch when we came. We went to Kroger to see all of the different things to recycle.
